Three-star Kyle Sturdivant taking it slow

Kyle Sturdivant has been a productive player for Norcross (Ga.) since his freshman year. The 6-foot-3 has continued to progress since then to the point where he’s now a key cog in the Blue Devils' success this year and has several top college basketball programs around the country recruiting him.

Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, Rutgers, Texas A&M, USC and Xavier are among the schools talking to Sturdivant regularly, and each school has made a trip to Norcross to see him this year. The three-star combo guard took a visit to Ohio State during football season.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Sturdivant talked about his interest in some of the programs recruiting him.

Clemson: “They are doing really well this year. I feel like their program is up and coming, especially if they get Zion Williamson in a couple weeks. That’d be big for them.”

Florida State: “I like their program. I actually played with M.J. Walker my ninth grade year. He’s told me they let you play and they make you earn everything you get. He said it’s a brotherhood down there.”

Ohio State: “It was a crazy environment. I went up there for the Penn State football game. I really got a chance to see the fan base and everything they have there. I like their team. I actually just watched them beat Michigan State.”

USC: “I’m really close with their assistant coach, Chris Capko. I talk to him a lot. When the FBI thing hit, I knew that was going to take a hit on their program, but I’m still interested.”

Xavier: “I like Xavier. They are a top tier program. They have always been a really good college team.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Sturdivant said his current plan is to play out his last year of travel ball with Nike Team Florida before moving forward with the recruiting process. He said he should have a pretty good idea of which schools he wants to visit by the end of July. He’ll take his official visit after that and hopes to have a decision out of the way before the start of his senior season at Norcross.

RIVALS' REACTION

Ohio State getting Sturdivant on campus early was big for the Buckeyes, and it only helped their cause that Sturdivant saw them pull off one of the biggest upsets of college basketball season so far. Clemson is a school to keep an eye on here as the Tigers are having a great season and could be on the verge of a major recruiting breakthrough if Brad Brownell finish off his class with Zion Williamson. Florida State has had great success recruiting in the Peach State lately, so don’t count the Seminoles out here either.
