Three in hot pursuit of McCune

The city of Saginaw is always a hot bed for basketball talent, and maybe the top player in the city is Tommie McCune. The Saginaw High School star is attracting a lot of attention from colleges, but at the moment three schools are standing out.
Over the weekend McCune participated in the Elite 3 Styles Showcase. At the event McCune was one of the top performers overall, and he feels that he performed up to his capability.

"I think I played real good," said McCune. "I came out and played hard. I think I showed what I can do and showed what I have been working on. Overall it was a good weekend for me."
When asked what he had been working on with his game, McCune said, "I have been focusing on my dribbling and my shooting. Also I am trying to make my post game better than what it was. I keep trying to add new moves to my game so that I can be a bigger weapon."
Recruiting wise the number 87 prospect in the country is becoming a hot commodity. McCune is hearing from a wide variety of schools, but he says that three are after him the hardest.
"It's been good," said McCune of his recruitment. "I have heard from a lot of schools since the summer. There are too many to name, but Xavier, Michigan State, and Providence are recruiting me the hardest I would say."
The Michigan State Spartans have recruited Saginaw High in the past with Draymond Green, and East Lansing is close to Saginaw. That gives McCune a lot of familiarity with the school and the coaches.
"I would have to say their coaching staff," said McCune about what stands out with Michigan State. "One of the biggest things I look for in a school is when the guy is recruiting you, he might try to sound like your best friend and everything, but when you get down there he isn't the guy you have been talking to. With Michigan State what you see is what you get. They really try to make it feel like a family. I just really like Michigan State right now."
Currently the Spartans haven't offered, but the Providence Friars have, and that has McCune's attention. "They actually offered me, and they have a real cool coaching staff. They seem like real good guys."
The other school after McCune the hardest is Xavier. Like Michigan State, Xavier hasn't issued an official offer, but they have been by to see him.
"They came to see me workout and have been to a few open gyms," said McCune of Xavier. "They have been talking to me a lot. The coach who is recruiting me seems like a real cool guy."
When asked what he will be looking for in a school when it comes time to make a decision, McCune said, "Really I just want for the gym to be open all night long, and just a good coaching staff with good people who will take care of you. One of my main things is a small classroom environment."
In terms of when a decision might come, McCune says he is still isn't sure, "I have been thinking about if I would want to decide after my school season or when everything is done with, but I am still undecided on that."
