Thorns inks with ACC

After a dazzling showing on the spring circuit, Las Vegas area guard Hank Thorns has found a home for college next fall. The 5-foot-9 floor general is headed to Virginia Tech.
Thorns, a three-star prospect, visited Virginia Tech last weekend and decided he saw enough to make a pledge to the ACC school.

"Basically, I felt at home. I met all the coaches, players and it's like a big family. I really like playing with Deron Washington I think he can help make me better," Thorns told HokieHaven.com.
"As far as the coaches, they help you excel and I believe they can get my game to the next level. They also have really good fans. Virginia Tech is a basketball town and everything about the college is built around sports. The academics there are very good too."
Thorns shined at the Las Vegas Spring Showcase and in Arizona for the Cactus Classic with the Las Vegas Dogcatchers AAU program. Thorns showed off his incredible quickness from end to end and picked up a lot of steam on the recruiting front.
Thorns visited Virginia and Old Dominion. Nevada offered and Kentucky also showed interest.
"His ability to make plays for both himself and others sets him apart," Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg said in a press release. "After watching him on tape, and talking to people he competed against the last three years, we are very confident we are getting a special player and person. He will be a tremendous addition to our basketball program. He will have an immediate impact."
Thorns averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 3.7 steals per game as a senior at Valley High School.
