Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI point guard Aaron Thompson is what your typical basketball fan envisions in a point guard. He’s solid in all areas, doesn’t turn over the ball, can score when needed and is best making others around him better.

He’s currently averaging seven points, eight assists and seven rebounds per game this season and has helped Paul VI get off to a 9-3 start. He’s up to five high-major offers now as Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Temple have all pulled the trigger on extending scholarships. Georgetown is showing heavy interest as well in the Rivals150 prospect.

IN HIS OWNS WORDS

Georgia Tech: “I watched them a lot when they have games. I haven’t really talked to them as much lately. They have been up to some of my games. Coach (Tom) Herrion, the assistant coach there, he texts me a lot to stay in touch.”

Nebraska: “It was good. I loved it. It was a really nice campus. The facilities were great. The coaching staff was great. It was just an overall great situation for me as a basketball player and as a student. It was different for me because it’s in the Midwest and I’ve never really been out there, so it was a good experience.”

Temple: “I love their coaching staff. They are always there for me whenever I need anything. They keep saying I’m welcomed there with open arms. I just feel really comfortable there. Coach Aaron McKie, I have a great relationship with him. Coach (Fran) Dunphy, he’s a really good guy too. He takes care of his guys after basketball too.”

Vanderbilt: “That was my most recent offer. I like their program. I like the coaches, the coach that’s recruiting me. Coach (Kevin) Stallings seems like a down to earth guy that cares about his players. I like Coach (Adam) Cohen. I like the way their offense is set up and their whole program.

Virginia Tech: “I love Coach Buzz (Williams). He’s a great guy. He’s very intelligent. It’s always good talk to him because I can always pick up knowledge from him. You can just tell by the way he talks to you that he’s a really down to earth guy.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

Thompson plans to take a visit to Vanderbilt in the near future. He doesn’t have a timeline in mind for a decision, but hinted that it really could happen at any time.

RIVALS’ REACTION

If the visit to Vanderbilt goes well, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see him pull the trigger and commit to the Commodores. Temple and Virginia Tech also appear to be in good shape with Thompson.
