The Recruit Scoop joins Rivals network

MORE: The Recruit Scoop | Mary Kline Classic
Yahoo! Sports, the No. 1 leader for online sports coverage with nearly 50 million unique visitors a month in the U.S., announced a deal with the next generation of sports media coverage. Alex Kline, the 17-year-old owner and operator of The Recruit Scoop, has joined Rivals, the dominant provider for team site and recruiting coverage. The Recruit Scoop, a leading site for dissecting, discussing and reporting on basketball recruiting, is now live on Rivals.com at http://recruitscoop.rivals.com/, and will be a part of the Yahoo! Sports brand.

The Recruit Scoop-Rivals.com deal was featured in The New York Times over the weekend.
On Rivals.com, The Recruit Scoop provides daily updates, weekly features of the Rivals150, the top 150 recruits across the country, hosts Q&A with top talent and live chats with basketball prospects from coast-to-coast. In his new role, Alex will be an Expert Publisher, focusing on the world of basketball recruiting. Alex will showcase student-athletes who are making visits to, verbally committing to, and ultimately signing letters of intent to play for colleges and universities across the country.
"As the No. 1 football and basketball recruiting site, Rivals.com is thrilled to have Alex and The Recruit Scoop as a major focus of our hoops recruiting efforts," said Eric Winter, Head of Rivals.com for Yahoo! Sports. "Alex leads the charge for what we call the next-gen in media coverage. His ability to break news, procure relationships with recruits and the tight coaching fraternity, coupled with his strong social acumen, will allow Rivals.com to reach today's youth in ways traditional media and our competition cannot."
This acquisition adds to Yahoo! Sports' and Rivals.com's already deep editorial bench of sports journalists, and further solidifies Yahoo! Sports' position as the differentiated destination for the most passionate fans around the country. Yahoo! initially partnered and ultimately acquired Rivals in 2007, because of the incredibly engaging mix of content and community tools for avid sports followers. The proof is in the numbers, and on National Signing Day, Rivals.com had more than 40 million page views and nearly 1 million streams of video packages.

Kline also is the creator of the Mary Kline Classic, a basketball showcase at the Pennington School in New Jersey. The Classic features elite high school players participating in skills competitions and a game, and raises funds for cancer research. The Classic is named in honor of Alex's mother, who passed away from cancer when he was 10 years old. This year's Classic was held last Saturday.
