Texas shooting guard still growing

Things did not work out at his old high school for 6-foot-3, 165-pound Jon Morse. The still growing shooting guard is playing well for Feast Christian School in San Antonio, Texas, and is training with a former European scoring leader DJ Jones.
“Jon has grown 8 inches in the last year and a half,” said Morse’s father and AAU coach Robert Morse of the San Antonio Flames. “The doctor thinks he still has 2 or 3 more inches to go.

“He is a late bloomer and is working really hard with DJ Jones. DJ played several years with the German National Team and was a leading scorer in Europe. He feels that Jon is good enough right now to play Class 2 ball in Germany. Because he is a late bloomer, we might consider prep school if he does not get what he is looking for this spring. He is definitely a D-1 player, not a North Carolina type, but with the proper training, he might be.”
Coach Morse did list USC, Texas A&M-CC and Sam Houston State as schools showing interest in his son after watching him play this summer. The only problem is that the younger Morse was only 5-foot-11 during much of the summer.
Although Morse is trying to adjust to his growing body, his ability to shoot the ball and see the court.
“Jon sees the court very well and is an unselfish player,” said Morse. “He knows how to lead a team. He is also a good shooter who knows when to shoot.
“He does need to improve his vertical and his overall speed, but that will come when he stops growing and his knees start to feel better.”
Morse is presently averaging 15 points and 8 assists per game for Feast Christian School.
