Bamfield Harmon, a rock solid 6-1, 175 pound combo guard from The Colony H.S. in The Colony, Tex., has committed to the University of Rhode Island.

Harmon (pictured right) visited Rhode Island from Oct. 6-8, and selected the Rams shortly thereafter. He had previously visited Drake in September, and had also considered Rice, Samford, UTEP and Colorado State, among others.
Rhode Island jumped into the mix in September after hiring a new assistant coach from Lamar University in Texas.
According to Harmon, the assistant coach, Dan Theis, had been recruiting his summer league teammate Derrick Grubb while at Lamar.
"He saw me and thought I would fit the description of a Rhode Island player," Harmon explained. "He had Coach Baron come down and see me play, and Coach Baron liked what he saw and they offered me to come up there for a visit. I met the players and I liked the atmosphere and Coach Baron."
Harmon was considered a highly regarded football prospect, but he told the Rivalshoops.com back in September that he wanted to play basketball in college.
After seeing him at both the Great American Shootout in Texas and the Best of the Summer Basketball Tournament in California this past summer, Rivalshoops.com felt that Harmon was a very underrated point/combo guard prospect.
Playing with the North Texas Rice Owls, Harmon displayed excellent quickness, good athleticism, toughness, sticky defense and the ability to score.
Harmon said he is excited about the prospects of being a part of Coach Baron's rebuilding plans at URI.
"I would love to be part of the rebuilding process, especially in a conference like the Atlantic 10," Harmon said. "Having a chance to go out there and beat programs like Temple and UMass. It will be a great feeling to go out there and help the team win."
Harmon also sees the immediate chance for playing time with the departure of Rams senior point guard Edwin "Greedy" Daniels next year.
"I have a good chance of stepping in and taking that spot," Harmon said. "Not necessarily starting but maybe eventually starting toward the end of the season. But coming in and getting some quality minutes."
Harmon said he will sign with Rhode Island in a press conference at his high school in November.
Two of his high school teammates are among the most highly regarded players in the United States -- 6-3 point guard Deron Williams (Illinois) and 6-3 shooting guard Bracey Wright (Indiana).
As a junior last season at The Colony, Harmon averaged 17 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals per game.
He is a full academic qualifier in line with NCAA standards, having compiled a 3.3 GPA and a 1010 SAT score.
