Texas Big Man To Visit Kansas

Joseph Jones, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound center from Normangee High School in Normangee, Texas will be visiting Lawrence, Kansas the weekend of May 2-4.
The Jayhawk Invitational is being played at that time and Jones is making the trip with his Houston Select AAU teammates.

Jones is quickly becoming one of the more heavily recruited players in the class of 2004. Things have been extremely hectic for Jones during the contact period.
Melvin Watkins from Texas A&M, Ray McCallum from Houston, Bobby Knight from Texas Tech, Stan Heath from Arkansas, Rick Barnes from Texas, Josh Pastner an assistant from Arizona and Roy Williams from North Carolina have already visited the Texas big man.
Normangee head coach Alan Andrus indicated that Bill Self might make it in for a visit before the end of the contact period, but it appears that nothing is official.
“I don’t think that the visit is going to happen.” Jones said. “I know Coach Self was visiting parents and recruits and trying to make sure the team stayed together. I’m not aware of any scheduled visit with Coach Self.”
The AAU summer circuit is nearing and many teams have already participated in several major events. Many of those teams will attend the Jayhawk Invitational, which takes place May 2-4.
“I’ll be in Lawrence for the Jayhawk Invitational,” Jones said. “My Houston Select teammates and I are excited about the trip.”
Jones averaged 18 points and 14.9 rebounds a game and led Normangee, which is class 1A, to a 31-2 record. Jones made it perfectly clear that he is wide-open in terms of his recruiting.
“I really don’t have any favorite schools or a top five yet,” he said. “Everything’s happened so fast and my recruitment has been like a big rush. Last summer was big for me and things started taking off from that point.”
