Texan Bam Harmon Heading Home

Bam Harmon, an athletic 6-3, 180 pound combo guard originally from The Colony
(TX), has requested and been granted his release from Rhode Island, and the

freshman is free to transfer to another school.
"He just wanted to be closer to home", said Harmon's high school coach at The
Colony (TX) HS, Tommy Thomas.
Harmon saw limited action as a freshman for the Rams, appearing in 21 games and
averaging 0.8 points and 1.0 rebounds in 5.5 minutes a contest. He scored a
season-high three points on three occasions, playing a season-high 15 minutes
against Central Connecticut State. His playing time was almost non-existent at
the end of the year, as Harmon only appeared briefly in the Atlantic 10
tournament and did not play in either of URI's two NIT games.
Right now, Harmon's future destination is yet to be determined, although it is
clear it will be much closer to his Texas abode. According to Thomas, Harmon
is wide open and a bridge year in junior college may even be an option. In the
meantime, Harmon is concentrating on finishing up the semester at URI where he
is in good academic standing.
As a senior at The Colony (TX) HS in 2001-02, Harmon averaged 14.6 points, 5.2
rebounds, and 3.6 assists as the third guard on a Cougar team that finished
29-3 and also featured Big Ten guards Deron Williams (Illinois) and Bracey Wright (Indiana). A tremendous
athlete with a good build, Harmon uses his quickness and leaping ability to
finish at the rim and help out on the offensive and defensive boards. He also
was an all-district performer on the gridiron in high school, playing wide
receiver and defensive back. He signed early with Rhode Island in the Fall of
2001.
Basketball-wise, although he had hoped to play a bigger role on the team,
Harmon did appreciate his time at URI. But in the end, he just needed to be
near family and friends back home.
"They were good to him," said Thomas. "He had a good experience playing at
that level of basketball."
"But when you're a Texas guy, it's just too far away."
Stay tuned over the summer to find out where this talented combo guard will
make his future home.
