Terrorist Attacks Affect Brandon Roys Recruiting

A little over a week ago, Boston College was among the strongest factors in the recruiting battle for ultra athletic 6-5 small forward Brandon Roy of Garfield H.S. in Seattle, Wash.
But then the terrorist attacks struck the Eastern United States last week, and it has shaken Roy's desire to attend school very far away from home, he told the Insiders Report on Monday night.

"I've been talking about it with my parents -- the whole East Coast thing right now," Roy said. "It held me back a little bit, so I don't know about going to the East Coast. I don't even want to fly anywhere, not even on visits right now."
Roy said he has a top four (in no particular order) of Gonzaga, Oregon, Washington and Arizona, with Boston College fifth and Washington State sixth.
He's made one unofficial visit thus far to Oregon on Sept. 8, where he had a chance to catch the Ducks' football game against Wisconsin.
Oregon was in the home with Roy on Monday, Sept. 17.
"I think I am getting closer to deciding," Roy said. "Not just yet, I am going to wait until all of the coaches come in to the house, then I am probably going to sit down with my dad and Coach [Lou] Hobson, and we'll talk about some things."
Roy has already entertained the coaching staffs from Boston College and Washington State on Sept. 9, and then Gonzaga came in on Sept. 12. Washington is in the process of finalizing a date for an in-home visit, which could come as early as this Saturday, Sept. 22, Roy said.
Arizona gets the next appointment with Brandon and his family on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
Roy has yet to set up any official visits, but the Insiders Report will keep you posted on his recruitment as the coming weeks unfold.
Last season at Garfield, Roy averaged 19.2 points and nine rebounds per game. He said he has a 2.2 GPA but has yet to take the SAT or ACT.
Roy impressed IR tremendously this summer with his high wire athleticism and passion on the basketball court. He attended the Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis to kick things off, and then played for Lou Hobson's Team Yes Red at the adidas Big Time Tournament.
Roy put up huge numbers at the Big Time Tournament despite the fact that he suffered a torn left lateral meniscus earlier this year. He is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2002, and will be an impact athlete at the Division I level early on in his career.
