Temple secures local big man

Temple didn't have to go very far for their latest commitment. Fran Dunphy and his staff landed Philly big man Lavoy Allen. The 6-foot-9, 228-pound from Pennsbury High School will sign with the Owls during the early signing period, according to his AAU coach Lonnie Lowry.
The Atlantic 10 program beat out the likes of LaSalle and Rutgers. Lowry says Allen is a huge get for Dunphy and his staff.

"He's a Big East, SEC level player playing in the Atlantic 10," Lowry said. "And it's huge for Temple to get a kid like him and get him to stay home. The city schools are really trying to keep the local guys here. Temple got him and he'll be a good one for them."
Allen joins Florida guard Martavis Kee and northeastern big man Michael Eric. Allen gives the team a big man that can rebound, run the floor and block shots all the while possessing a frame that will certainly develop into an intimidating force under the basket.
"His best days are ahead of him. I think he'll be just tremendous. If he develops the right way, he'll be one of the best big men in the country," Lowry said.
"I think he'll make a big impact from the gate. He should play a lot of minutes and help out and help Temple out and improve them. He'll be able to do some good things."
