Taylor could be a sleeper

It's not been unusual for pretty good basketball players to come from the Caribbean or Europe or Africa.
Kids generally make the move to improve their educational opportunities and their basketball skills. Well this weekend, we saw a darn good player for the Philadelphia Panthers Red who is a native of Guam.

Anis Taylor (finishing jump shot on right) is a 6-2, 165 pound combo guard who spent his first year on the mainland with Darryl Scofield's Philadelphia Christian Academy.
Taylor averaged 11 points, four assists and four rebounds at PCA. Coach Scofield said that Taylor was his best three-point shooter this past year. And he can work free for a jump shot or slash toward the hoop.
Taylor said he quickly realized that he made the right move since, with PCA, he has the opportunity to play against much stronger competition.
Colleges are just now catching up with this young man. When asked if he prefers the point or wing position he said, "Whatever the team needs me to do."
So far he hasn't heard from either Nike or adidas for the opening week in July. He will participate at the Eastern Invitational and the College Exposure Camp at the same Atlantic Cape Camp in South Jersey.
Taylor said he wants to work on his ball handling and shooting this summer. And, from the way he played this weekend, it looks like he already is well into his third task, "I want to work harder," he said.
Taylor has a 3.0 GPA and scored 990 on his first attempt at the SAT. "I will major in law," he added.
