Mario Taybron, a resourceful 6-2, 185 pound combo guard from the Blue Ridge School in St. George, Va., looked terrific in a Tuesday afternoon quarterfinal matchup at the Peach Jam Invitational.
Taybron scored 19 points and dished out several assists (the official stat sheet had him for one, but he had more) in Boo Williams' 66-59 victory over Riverside Church.

In previous events where Rivalshoops saw Taybron, he was more of a spot up three point specialist. However, he displayed a good feel for the game and deft passing skills in the win over Riverside.
Taybron has an adequate (not great) handle, but the best thing about him is that he's economical with the ball and finds open teammates quickly.
Taybron said that he has been offered scholarships by Temple, N.C. State, UConn, St. John's, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison and Old Dominion. His current top four schools are Charlotte, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech and St. John's.
He has taken unofficial visits to several schools in his area, including Charlotte, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion and James Madison.
Taybron averaged 28 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals per game last season at Ryan Academy. He said he has a 3.2 GPA and scored over an 820 on the SAT exam.
