Surprise, surprise: Theo Davis makes pick

Theo Davis put together a list of five potential schools he wanted to play at. North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Georgia Tech and Arkansas. On Friday night at a banquet at the All Canada weekend in Toronto, the 6-foot-10, 220-pound power forward announced he'd play for…none of them. The four-star prospect said he will instead sign with a Big 12 school, according to his AAU coach Ro Russell.
Russell told Rivals.com on Friday evening that Davis announced he will play his college basketball at Iowa State. Earlier in the week, Russell said he would not be surprised if Davis picked a school that no one expected.

Also surprising was the fact that Davis had not visited any of the five schools that he had listed and in fact, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Illinois were all trying to get in late in the picture but never had any luck in the communication process.
Sources say Iowa State head coach Wayne Morgan was in Canada earlier in the week and the big man actually verbally committed to the Cyclones on the visit but wanted to announce his decision amongst friends and family at the gala on Friday night.
Rivals.com National Basketball Scout Jerry Meyer believes Davis should help Iowa State right away as a true freshman.
"Well built and mobile, Davis is a solid athlete, but not a great athlete at the power forward position. He does have length, though, and above average skills with the ball for a player his size," Meyer said. "He should be able to make an immediate impact at the high-major level."
After practicing with Davis just three days ago, Russell agrees with Meyer.
"He was jab stepping to the lane, pulling up for mid range jumpers. He was running the floor, blocking shots. He's really skilled," Russell said. "Once he gets into a college system, I think people will really get a chance to see just how good he really is."
Davis was a one-time verbal pledge to Texas but pulled out of his commitment and later moved home to Toronto after spending a year at Cardozo High School in New York.
