Stone still unturned in decision

Saiquon Stone, one of the top defenders still uncommitted to a school, is so focused on his senior season he didn’t even know the early signing period begins on Wednesday. Even still, the 6-foot-5, 185-pound guard from from New York City’s Xaverian High School is looking at a number of schools and has a trip planned to visit a Big East school next week.
“Oh it’s Wednesday?,” Stone asked about the early period. “I’m guess I’m not signing then. Everything else is going good with practice. I’m working hard, just trying to get ready for the season. It feels real good to be back out there. I can’t wait. It’s my senior season. It’s the last chance I got.”

Stone, a shut down defender on the wing, will play the center spot this season because of depleted frontline. Former center Mike Davis has moved onto another school. The position change isn’t something Stone dreamed up but he’s game to whatever the team needs.
“I just want to win because I’m not worrying about anything else,” Stone said. “I know colleges are looking at me and that’s great but I want to play hard and go out with a bang.”
As focused as he is with the season, Stone has been quietly looking around at programs. He officially visited Fairfield two weeks ago and has plans to visit Pittsburgh next week. He said South Florida (offer), Providence, Hofstra (offer), Villanova and St. John’s are also involved.
The Pittsburgh trip is a bit interesting considering the fact that his backcourt mate Levance Fields just visited the Big East program. Former Xaverian big man Chris Taft is one of the headliners for the Panthers this season, too. Stone downplayed the Xaverian connection, particularly playing college ball with Fields.
“We both just got to do what’s best for the both of us. I don’t really know what he’s thinking (about where to go) and I’m just listening to what people have to say,” Stone said.
Xavierian will be on a busy high-profile tournament tour this year, making a nine-day stop in Hawaii, a couple of New York tournaments and a stop at the loaded Prime Time Shootout.
