After a strong showing in the spring with the Florida Vipers, 6-foot-8 combo
forward Keith Stone converted interest into offers including picking up
an offer from an ACC school.
Stone, out of Zion Lutheran in Deerfield Beach, Fla., received a call from
Georgia Tech head coach Brian Gregory on Tuesday evening
informing him of the offer.
"The head coach called and offered," Stone said. "He said that he is looking for
a kid like me and would love for me to come visit."
Stone, who also listed offers from Florida Gulf Coast,
Florida Atlantic, FIU, North Florida, Northern Arizona, East Carolina, UCF, Middle Tennessee State and Wyoming;
said that with Tuesday's offer the Yellow Jackets are now in a favorable
position.
"Georgia Tech, Alabama, South Carolina, FGCU and Wyoming" he
said when asked which were the schools recruiting him hard. "FGCU is a great
school and I love the coaching staff," Stone added.
The rising senior told Rivals.com that he has developed a special relationship
with one of the head coaches that is recruiting him -- Wyoming's Larry Shyatt.
"He's a cool dude," Stone said. "He wants to win, also he seems like he'll push
me."
Stone recently was named MVP at the Five-Star Basketball camp held at Central
Florida. During the April live period, when his Florida Vipers AAU team won the
17U championship at the Gulf Coast Hoop Fest in Biloxi, Miss., Stone's
recruitment started to gain steam with programs outside of the state of Florida.
At 6-foot-8, 238 pounds and athletic, Stone can play either forward spot. He has
very good timing on rebounds in, and out, of his area. He can knock down open
jump shots from anywhere on the court. He's exactly the type of emerging player
that picks up several high major offers during and shortly after the July live
periods.
