Stanback Looks to Atlantic 10

Freddie Stanback out of Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia is looking to the Atlantic 10 for his college. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound small forward now lists William & Mary, Fordham, Dayton, Temple, and St. Joseph’s as his top schools.
He has an official visit set with William & Mary (date unknown) and is scheduling visits with the other four schools, but those four schools are where his eyes are set.

“I like the Atlantic 10 schools because the Atlantic 10 is serious about basketball,” Stanback explained. “The Atlantic 10 fits my game. I am not really athletic, and the Atlantic 10 is not a real athletic league, but more of a skill league.”
The only problem for Stanback right now is that Fordham is the only Atlantic 10 school that has offered a scholarship.
“The others are still evaluating me,” he said. “They are coming to my open gyms.”
Although Stanback may not be extremely athletic, he feels he has the skill to succeed in the Atlantic 10.
“I am a very versatile player,” he commented. “I can play a lot of positions. I am not the kind to fly through the air, but I will do all the little things like get on the floor, take a charge, handle the ball, and knock down a shot.”
Stanback’s team Bishop O’Connell will have to overcome the loss of Brian Johnson, the No. 33 player in the Rivals150, to Oak Hill Academy this season.
“I am working on my conditioning and working on my athletic ability,” said Stanback. “Brian Johnson left, so as a team we are trying to get our chemistry back together.”
