St. Johns lands a big man

Coach Norm Roberts is gaining ground in his attempt to rebuild the St. John's program. This weekend he secured the third commitment out of the 2007 class from South Kent (Conn.) center Ayodele Coker.
"St. John's had everything I wanted," said the 6-foot-10, 245-pound Coker who is originally from Nigeria. "They have the whole package with a great coach who is a very humble man. The players play with great team chemistry. It was just a place where I felt I really fit in."

Coker, who played his summer ball with the Albany City Rocks, steadily improved throughout the travel circuit. He gives much of the credit to his high school coach Raphael Chilious.
"I'm in a great situation at South Kent," he said. "The coach makes me comfortable, and I'm able to do what I can do. He really encourages me to play through my mistakes. I also have teammates who play hard and are very supportive."
Coker, who had also visited Pittsburgh, was also considering Indiana.
He joins native New Yorkers Malik Boothe and Justin Burrell as 2007 St. John's commitments.
