Spring decision for Yates

Three-star prospect Desmond Yates from Fayette-Ware High School in Somerville, Tenn., had two SEC offers earlier in the summer. That may or may not be the case now for the 6-foot-6, 190-pound combo forward. Yates will not be a qualifier before the early signing period and will more than likely make a decision this spring.
“Desmond just took the ACT last week, so we are waiting on his score,” said Fayette-Ware head coach Larry Ransom. “He is going to wait till the spring before he does anything.

“Tennessee had offered and Ole Miss had offered, but we haven’t heard much from them lately so I am not sure what the situation on that is. UAB is one school that has been talking a lot to Desmond, and a bunch of smaller schools are recruiting him.”
Yates’ teammate from last year Frank Holmes is a freshman at UAB this year.
Middle Tennessee State is another school that is involved with Yates.
Yates, who carries a 2.7 GPA, is an active athlete around the basket who can score with his back-to-the-basket. He can step out and hit the 17-footer, but his ball handling skills and range will need to improve to be an effective small forward at the high major level.
