Spooner To Take Visit

Dedric Spooner, a physical 6-8, 235 pound power forward from Colby C.C. in Colby, Kan., will take an official visit to Charlotte from Dec. 27-29, according to Trojan Head Coach Brian Ostermann.
A native of Milwaukee, Spooner has also been offered by St. Louis University, Louisiana Tech and UW-Milwaukee, Ostermann said. An assistant coach from St. Louis made the scholarship offer to Spooner through Ostermann after watching Spooner play on Friday night in Colby's 65-46 loss to Coffeyville C.C. at the Jayhawk Shootout.

"He is leaning toward Charlotte and he is going to visit there at the end of December," Ostermann said. "Louisiana Tech is still in the picture, they've offered a scholarship and a visit, and St. Louis and UW-Milwaukee have also offered."
If Spooner has a productive visit to Charlotte later this month, his recruiting process could come to a screeching halt.
"I think Charlotte would like him to commit on his visit, and I think that's a possibility," Ostermann said.
Spooner was one of the top returning big men in the Jayhawk Conference this winter after posting highly respectable numbers at Colby as a freshman. He averaged 13.2 points and 8.6 rebounds in 2001-2002, and the Trojans play in one of the toughest JUCO leagues in the county in the Jayhawk West Conference.
"Dedric has lifted and is probably in better shape than he was last year," Ostermann said. "He's stronger, he benches 275 pounds, he's quicker and he's more mature."
