Spooner Has Offer and Leader

Dedric Spooner, a skilled 6-8, 220 pound power forward from Colby C.C. in Colby, Kan., has been offered a scholarship this fall by Charlotte.
According to Colby Head Coach Brian Ostermann, the 49er staff was in to take a look at Spooner this fall, as was Kansas State. Louisiana Tech had also expressed an interest in Spooner at one time.

However, Ostermann said that Charlotte has emerged as the clear leader in Spooner's recruiting process. In fact, Dedric is expected to take a trip to the Conference USA program sometime in December.
As a freshman last season at Colby, the Milwaukee, Wis., native averaged 13.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He shot right at 50 percent from the field.
"Dedric has a great ability to score as a power forward at the next level," Ostermann said. "He can shoot it out reliably to around 17 feet, and he's also a very solid defensive player -- he blocked 72 shots last season."
Spooner arrived at Colby in the 240-250 pound range, and has trimmed down this season to 220. That should improve his conditioning and give a boost to Spooner's athleticism.
Rivalshoops.com plans on catching Spooner in action this season, and we will provide another report on him at that time, so stay tuned!
