Southern Miss Picks Up Wyoming JUCO Big Man

Brown picked Southern Miss over Wyoming and Georgia State, according to Sheridan Head Coach Brian Marso.

Brown visited Southern Miss from Oct. 5-7. His most recent trip came to Georgia State (Oct. 12-14), while his first trip was early in the school year to Wyoming (Aug. 30-Sept. 1).
"He liked the fact that Southern Miss is rebuilding and that he could have an oppportunity to step in and play," Marso said.
A native of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, Brown spent last year at Colby C.C. in Kansas, where he averaged 10.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Brown ran into some difficulties last year while attending Colby, and in his best interests, he transferred to Sheridan this past summer.
While he arrived at Sheridan needing quite a few hours to graduate by the spring of 2002, Brown does have a chance to graduate by next summer if he does well in the classroom this fall.
"He's trying to get it done without the summer, but it's a longshot right now," Marso said. "He needs quite a few hours to graduate, but right now we are trying to load him up and get it done without the summer. He can use summer school as a way of protection if he does not do well."
Brown is one of those players who oozes potential.
"He's up to 6-11, 215 pounds, is athletic, runs the floor and has good bounce to him," Marso said. "He's got a motor."
"With some work, he has the potential to be able to step out and face the basket," Marso continued. "He's very long and makes a difference on the defensive end. He just needs to get stronger."
Marso said that Brown plans on signing with the Golden Eagles during the November signing period, which commences on Nov. 14.
