South Alabama lands ready to play wing

It's not all that often that brothers get to play at the same college. Just as, if not more, rare is when a player gets a chance to play basketball at the same school that his sister does. With today's pick of South Alabama, Mychal Ammons will now get that chance.
A solidly built three-star wing from Vicksburg (Miss.) High, Ammons drew high major attention while playing with the Jackson Tigers and his high school team. But, the chance to make more of an instant impact was important.

"I felt that it was a good place for me," said Ammons. "I like the style of play. Most of all I could have could have gone anywhere and gotten some playing time, but I felt like they were good people there who could help me grow. Not just on the basketball, but outside of it."
"I really want to go there and try to make a name for myself."
He can slash to the rim, is a good spot-up shooter and has the type of athleticism and strength that should allow him to be an impact recruit for head coach Ronnie Arrow and his staff.
Ammons, who picked the Jaguars over finalists Nebraska and Missouri State. Because his sister Taylor is currently a junior forward on the Women's team, Ammons won't be alone as a freshman. Something that it's pros and cons.
"With her being there I'm not ever going to be alone and she'll have my back," Ammons told Rivals.com. "On the other side, she's going to be all over me."
