A long lefty insider, Augustine had a good summer. "I have been trying to work on my ballhandling and jumpshooting," Augustine told us at the recent AAU Nationals. "I think I have made good progress this summer."
Before the Nationals, the Insiders Report had a chance to watch Augustine at the Three Stripes Classic tournament at Hofstra University.
A nice young man who works hard, Augustine previously told us that he was interested in in Illinois, Purdue, Wake Forest, Xavier, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.
Augustine averaged 14 points and eight rebounds per game last season as a junior.
Russ Blake watched him in late June at the BET D.C. Pro Am in Washington D.C. Here is his report:
James Augustine frustrated opponents all weekend long at the D.C. Pro Am Basketball Tournament, where he played with Mac Irvin's Illinois Fire program.
Augustine is very agile and mobile, and he flies in for offensive rebounds and stickbacks. He likes to step out on the wing and put the ball on the floor a bit and shoot the occasional three pointer, but that's not really where his future lies.
On the defensive end, Augustine used his long arms to frustrate opposing team's big men, and he did a great job of bottling up the T5T Playaz's Jason Fraser in Saturday's semifinal match.
Augustine averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and five blocks per game. He said he has a 3.0 GPA and has achieved qualifying scores on both the SAT and ACT.
