Sommersets Stock Rises

Darryl Sommerset, a 6-7, 187 pound power/combination forward from Bolton H.S. in Arlington, Tenn., was a pleasant surprise for the Team Memphis squad at the Peach Jam.
Sommerset scored 16 points and hauled down seven rebounds on Monday night in a victory over the Wisconsin Playground club. He runs the floor effectively in transition and is a good athlete, although Sommerset is not a physical back to the basket type big man.

He has the mobility to play out on the wing some, the big question whether or not he can develop a handle and perimeter shot to make a living out there.
Lots of mid-major types have been on Sommerset prior to the July evaluation period, and a strong end of the summer could see some higher level schools get serious about him.
Middle Tennessee State has shown the most interest in Sommerset thus far, and he also has had some contact with Rhode Island, Clemson, Arkansas and Tennessee. The only colleges he's visited thus far are MTSU and UT-Martin.
This past season at Bolton, Sommerset averaged 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and four blocks per contest. He said he has a 2.0 GPA but needs to boost his ACT score in order to qualify.
Sommerset will complete the summer at the AAU Super Showcase and AAU Nationals in Florida with Team Memphis, and Mike Sullivan will be there to keep you posted on his play and other top players in the Class of 2003.
