SoCal guard on the up and up

Seketoure Henry opened some eyes last weekend at the Las Vegas Easter Classic after he and his teammates took home the crown of one of the first major AAU tournaments this season. Now, the 6-foot-2, 165-pound shooting guard is looking for a repeat performance.
Henry, who plays at Lynwood (Calif.) High School, was one of the biggest surprises at the Hal Pastner event last weekend. He did a great job of scoring all over the court with a nice left-handed touch from the perimeter and tremendous athleticism as he attacked the basket. But was that enough to really wow colleges?

“Schools have always said that I’m too little to play the two guard spot but I know they are still looking at me. I know that I need strength. I know that I need to get bigger but who is to say that once I get to college I’ll get a good program and good facilities to get stronger. That’s what I’m looking for from them.”
Although he lacks high major size, his results could not be argued. He knew going into the showcase that he’d need to make a statement on a loaded roster.
“This summer is real big for me. Last year I wasn’t getting the looks that I thought I was going to get,” Henry said. “People saw little glimpses of what I could do. I can dribble. I can shoot. I can get to the basket. I love to jump. Now, this year I can do just about all of those things really well. Hopefully, they’ll notice that now.”
Some schools already have. Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine and San Diego State are all showing an early interest and all of those schools saw him shine at the Las Vegas Easter Classic last weekend. Henry said he knows what he is looking for in a future home.
“I want to look at how good the program is and how good their guards are,” Henry said. “I don’t really want to ride the bench when I first get there. If the school is known for their big men, obviously I don’t want to go there. I want to find a guard friendly school.”
RivalsHoops.com will have full coverage from the Spring Showcase, where Henry will be at, this weekend. Stay tuned for exclusive updates from the venue.
