Florissant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central small forward Xavier Sneed is being
courted by some of the top basketball programs in the Midwest.
Creighton, Kansas State, Missouri and Xavier
are among the schools that have been on the three-star prospect for a while now,
and Illinois just recently joined that list.
For now, Sneed's main focus is on helping his team gear up for a state
tournament run. His team sits at 18-7 at the moment, and Sneed has played a big
part in its success by averaging 19 points and six rebounds per game.
Before this season got underway, Sneed took unofficial visits to
Vanderbilt, Kansas State, Missouri and Xavier.
Kansas State seems to be one of the schools making a lot of progress in their
recruitment of the Rivals150 prospect.
"Their facilities are nice. Everything is really nice there," Sneed said. "I
like the program. I like their coaching staff. They all seem pretty nice. I like
how they handle themselves there and the way they play."
Xavier's coaching staff stays in constant contact with Sneed.
"I like the tradition they have there. I like their coaching staff. They all
keep in contact with me."
Illinois may have just offered, but they have been recruiting Sneed for an
extended period of time. By extending an offer, they vaulted towards the top of
his list.
"They are up there now. They have a good program and are good academically as
well. They told me they like to play up-tempo."
Missouri, the home state school, is the school Sneed grew up watching.
"They are one of the favorites because that's where I grew up and I've always
watched them. They are up there with my top schools because they are home. The
new coaching staff is doing well. I like how they are trying to play. They get
after it defensively and push the ball up the court.
Sneed's recruitment will likely play out for quite some time.
"At the end of the summer, I'll cut my list down. I probably won't commit until
after my senior season. Academics are really big for me and I'm looking for a
school that produces NBA players. I'm thinking of majoring in either sports
management or engineering."
