Four-star combo guard Shake Milton made Larry Brown and his SMU staff very happy Wednesday afternoon.
Ranked No. 66 in the class of 2015, the 6-foot-4 senior from Owasso (Okla.) High ended a pretty active week of speculation about his college destination when he announced in a press conference at his high school that he would play his college ball for Brown in Dallas.
Capable of playing either the point or the shooting guard position, Milton plays a brand of ball that is based off skill and feel for the game. He showed that versatility during the summer with MoKan Elite, causing Brown and his staff to fall hard for his game and how they could potentially use him in multiple ways.
If Brown decides to play him at the point, he is a tall guard who sees over the top of defenses and executes very well in the pick-and-roll. While there are faster point guards, his strength allows him to move defenders where he wants them to go and his ability to change speeds and bury mid range jumpers makes him much more elusive than some might think.
Playing off the ball, Milton again employs his pull-up jump shooting and he still has good size for a two guard. Additionally, while playing the two spot he could give the Mustangs a secondary ball handler capable of putting extra pressure on the defense because of his passing and off the dribble playmaking.
More than likely, Milton is going to get every opportunity to play at the point and it sets up a situation where SMU can use him or fellow Rivals150 point guard commit Sedrick Barefield together. Either could get the ball and push the ball up the floor while the other plays off the ball in a lineup that would give both scoring and playmaking.
In addition to Milton and Barefield, the Mustangs also hold a commitment from three-star small forward Jarrey Foster.
