Smiths Buzzer-Beater Propels Brewster

Brewster head coach Jason Smith smiled. "Yes, it was drawn up that way," he said. Then Smith's grin grew. "No, it was actually our second option."
Smith was referring to the last-second, off-balance, three-pointer hoisted up by Washington bound recruit Joel Smith. Joel's deep heave from the left corner gave Brewster a come-from-behind victory, 77-74, over St. Thomas More at the National Prep School Invitational held on the campus of Rhode Island this past weekend.

"We have lost a few games like that all year," said St. Thomas More head coach Jere Quinn. "Give Brewster a lot of credit. They worked hard and didn't quit."
At one stage of the second half, St. Thomas More had a 10-point lead. But Brewster kept chipping away at the advantage despite a great game by St. Thomas More's sophomore, Rob Thomas, who had 20 points. Smith's three-pointer came off an in-bounds pass with .9 seconds left in the game.
Joel Smith finished the game with 17 points. Adrian Joseph, who has signed with Virginia, had a solid first half for Brewster, scoring 12 points. "I like this group of kids," Jason Smith said. "They worked very hard today. They are a good group of kids too which makes it even more fun to coach."
