"I pretty much decided that I was going to go here before I came down," Smith said. "I just wanted to see it for myself. When I got down here they showed me around campus and gave me a tour.
"I got to meet the athletic director and the academic advisors. I even went to a couple of classes. All of the people spoke positives things about the school and about coach (Cliff) Warren."
The Dolphins landed a talented and under recruited player in the point guard. Smith was sensational in the 2A Georgia state championship game. He scored 26 points, pulled down eight rebounds, dished out seven assists and collected three steals. Smith had a hand in every bucket in the final quarter scoring, rebounding or making the pass to score to help seal the victory.
JU will sign Smith's AAU teammate and close friend Lehmon Colbert next week as well. Smith said is looking forward to helping put the Dolphins into post season contention next year.
"Coach told me that I had the opportunity to play right away if I come in and work hard," Smith said. "He told me that their style of play is up and down and that I needed to come down there and take advantage of the situation."
