Tyler Smith, a 6-2, 195-pound point guard from Laurel, Maryland, committed to DePaul tonight. He had taken his official visit to DePaul on September 20th. Charlotte, UCONN, Georgetown and Pittsburgh were also considered at one time during his recruiting process.
Smith, who was the Baltimore Sun's Player of the Year last season at undefeated Frederick Douglas High School, led the Baltimore area in scoring last season with 28.1 points per game with 27 double-digit games and averaged 5.0 assists and 4.9 steals for the City and State Class 3A champions. He shot 59 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc.
This is an outstanding pickup for DePaul. Smith, a lefty guard, can drop in a long-range jumper and also run the transition with great skill.
