At one time Fresno (Calif.) Edison High School post player Greg Smith was leaning towards his hometown school Fresno State. Now Smith, a 2009 four-star prospect measuring 6-foot-8, 220-pounds, is looking a new direction- east.

"I'd like to look at some east coast schools," said Smith. "At first I felt like I needed to stay close to home, but now I realize I might need to go away for school. That experience might help me mature as a person. Plus, I'd love to play with some east coast guards. There are some talented guards out west, but east coast guards play the game like it is the last game they will ever play."
Smith has recently fielded phone calls from schools across the country.
"UCLA called last week," he said. "Tennessee and Memphis called not too long ago. Also, Arizona and Florida have talked to me."
Claiming offers from UAC, Kansas State, Washington, Memphis, UCLA, Miami and Fresno State, Smith noted that he would love to hear from North Carolina, Duke and Louisville. Even though North Carolina is presently not recruiting Smith, he counts the Tar Heels as on of his top schools.
"My top two schools out west are USC and UCLA," he said. "In the east my top two are Memphis and North Carolina."
The No. 62 ranked prospect in the class of 2009, Smith will be in action at the Boo Williams Invitational with the Oakland Soldiers.
