Smith: Done Deal for Devils

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Tron Smith, a high scoring 6-2 wing guard from Canyon Springs H.S. in Moreno Valley, Calif., has acknowledged an oral commitment to Arizona State University.
While rumors have swirled in the past few weeks that Smith was a done deal for the Sun Devils, Tron said earlier this month that Boston College and ASU were his top two schools. That was in an interview that appeared on Rivalshoops.com just before the start of the adidas ABCD Camp.

But after much internal debate, Smith said several strong factors drew him to Rob Evans' Arizona State program.
"I went to the college and I visited there, and when I was down there every time, I loved it," Smith said. "It was my second time visiting there, and when I was at the ABCD Camp, I was thinking about how I wouldn't be able to take a visit to Boston College until September. So I was like, if I am not going to be able to visit the school, I am not going to go there."
"Plus I wanted to stay close to home anyway," Smith continued. "I didn't want to leave my mom so she could come visit me anytime she wants and I could visit home anytime I wanted."
At Smith's Monday afternoon game at the adidas Big Time Tournament, a number of Arizona State alumni showed up at his game clad in mustard gold and maroon polo shirts.
He didn't quite know what to make of it.
"It was kind of weird at first, I didn't know all of those people were going to be here," Smith said. "But it shows you the support they have for me, which is going to be good."
"At first, I was kind of nervous, because I was worried about having a bad game," he continued. "But then I was like it doesn't matter, I am going to go there anyway and they are going to cheer me a lot."
Smith scored 17 points as Inland squeaked past Minuteman Press, 66-65, in the auxiliary gym at Green Valley H.S.
