Sleeper Emerges From Weber Tournament

One of the bigger sleepers to emerge from the 2001 Charlie Weber Basketball Tournament was Chad McKenzie, a 6-6, 203 pound swingman from Richland Northeast H.S. in Columbia, S.C.
McKenzie is a tremendous slasher who showed the ability to finish acrobatically and with either hand at the rim. He is blessed with a good basketball body, an adequate handle, excellent athleticism and the heart of a lion.

Thus far, McKenzie has hosted a pair of college programs in his home, as Georgia (Sept. 10) and UNC-Wilmington (Sept. 13) have made the trip to Columbia. McKenzie said he expects Clemson to come in his home some time in early October.
In addition to those schools, McKenzie said he is also hearing from Virginia, Georgetown, Virginia Tech and South Carolina.
As a junior at Richland Northeast, McKenzie averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks per game. He said he has a 3.0 GPA and score a 980 on the SAT.
Like his teammate Hodges Anthony, McKenzie played with the Augusta/Carolina Hoopsters entry at the Nike Peach Jam and played with the TOPPS squad at the adidas Big Time Tournament.
McKenzie is undecided about when he might sign, and IR will keep you posted on his progress in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
