Sleeper alert: Erick Nsangou

Still lying under the recruiting radar, Erick Nsangou is hoping to have a great senior season at Florida Prep in order to catch the attention of college recruiters. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound point guard from Cameroon didn't have the summer he had hoped and that's the motivation he's using in his final year of high school.
After his first go at the AAU circuit, Nsangou was not satisfied with the way he played or his team. Maybe that's why he has high hopes for his senior season at Florida Prep.

As the point guard for the squad, Nsangou has a number of top prospects at his disposal. Chris Singletary of Chicago and center Hamady N'diaye are two options on the offense for the point guard.
"I think we will be very good," Nsangou said. "The level of players we have here are very good. I have a lot of people to pass the ball to. I want to prove myself with this team. I just want to play good basketball because I didn't have a good summer."
Don't discount his talent though. Nsangou is a tough as nails point guard. He has a big city feel to his game and looks like he's a battle tested guard by his aggressive moves to the basket. If you didn't know he was from Cameroon, he could be easily mistaken for a New York/New Jersey/Philly floor general.
Nsangou is one of the better athletes at his position and he isn't afraid to show it off in game situations. At times he'll revert to a scorer's mentality but after meeting with coaches over the summer and with the help of Florida Prep head coach Babacar Sy, Nsangou is fine tuning his decision making in the backcourt.
"I've met a lot of good men in basketball. They've taught me a lot," Nsangou said. "I've played against some good players and some players who everyone said is good but they weren't as good as they say. I know I can be better than them."
Recruiting is slow, he says. With interest from just Miami-Ohio and Louisiana-Monroe, Nsangou said he's ready to prove his worth this winter. He hopes one school in particular stops by the Sunshine State to see him play.
"I like Michigan," Nsangou said. "I used to watch them on TV all the time. I like them a lot. I'd like to get recruited by them."
Coaches will have plenty of opportunities to see Nsangou and the entire Florida Prep team in September in open gym settings. Looking for a sleeper in the backcourt? This could be your guy.
