Schools from across the country are actively recruiting
Derrick Roland, the No. 66 ranked player in the class of 2006. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard from Seagoville High School in Dallas, Texas, presently has six offers, and one Big East school has recently jumped into the mix.
"I don't have a leader and am still open, but I am considering Connecticut, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, UNLV, Florida, Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M. Pittsburgh just started recruiting me, and they came by my school this spring."
Roland also noted that all the schools on his list, except for Connecticut and Georgia Tech, visited his school this spring. Colorado, UNLV, Florida, Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M have all offered scholarships.
After playing this summer for the Dallas Mustangs AAU club and participating in the ABCD Camp, Roland will take his official visits in the fall.
"I'll take some visits when school starts back and plan on signing early," he said. "I'm just looking for a school where I can make an impact my first year. When I take my visits I'll be interested in the relationship between the players and the coaches."
An athletic scorer, Roland is presently working hard to develop a complete game.
"I want to continue to get better shooting the ball and get better defensively," he said. "Basically, I'm trying to get better at everything."
