Simms' long list of potential schools features ACC flavor

Blue Ridge (Va.) Palmyra power forward Aamir Simms has been on the radar of high-major programs for quite some time now. Those schools include Clemson, Miami, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Xavier, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and UCF, with Georgia and Western Kentucky recently joining that list.

Simms gave Rivals.com the latest on his recruitment as he heads into the summer before his senior year.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Clemson: “Clemson has shown a lot of love. One of my teammates is going there and we have a good bond. The coaching staff with Coach (Brad) Brownell and Coach (Steve) Smith, we have a good relationship. They are in pretty good hands.”

Pittsburgh: “With Pittsburgh, me and Coach (Kevin) Sutton have a really good relationship from when he was at Georgetown. We have a father-son type relationship. We have the tightest bond of any coach and player. I have to get up there and see the campus.”

Virginia Tech: “They have been on me since my freshman year when I was in public school. They have been there since the beginning. That relationship right there is indestructible. Me and Coach Buzz Williams have a tight relationship. That keeps them in play.”

Miami: “I think they have a good program. They have made a big jump in the ACC. They were battling with the best of the best this year in the best conference in the country. Me and Coach (Jim) Larranaga text all the time. He’s one of the only coaches that texts me every day to talk about basketball.”

Georgia: “I know they’ve been on me since last July, but they just now offered. My coach has been telling me about them for a while and it finally came. Me and Coach (Jonas) Hayes have a pretty cool relationship. Even though they jumped on me a little bit late, I’ll consider them because I already know people down there. I have good friends there. That’s a school I could see myself possibly going to.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Simms said he’ll participating in the NBA Top 100 camp this summer. After that, he may visit Pittsburgh. He’ll save the rest of his visits until after July and hopes to have his recruitment wrapped up before his senior season starts.

RIVALS' REACTION

The four-star prospect doesn’t hide from the fact he loves the idea of playing in the ACC. The majority of the schools in the mix for him play in the ACC. Relationships will also play a big part in his decision, which gives an edge to Clemson, Miami, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech right now.
