top college basketball programs after a strong summer with the Atlanta Celtics and he's continued to play at a high level during his junior year at St.
Francis.
Just recently, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams traveled to metro Atlanta
to watch the five-star prospect play. He gave Simmons some good news before
leaving.
"North Carolina came to my game the other night and offered," Simmons told
Rivals.com. "That was big. It's a great school to pick up an offer from. I like
them. I like everything coach Williams told me. He talked about their style of
play, how he coaches, how he is with his players, and just things like that."
Not long after the Tar Heels extended an offer, the Arizona Wildcats decided to
give him one as well.
"That was a big offer too. I like how they play. I think coach [Sean] Miller is
a great coach. I talk to Stanley Johnson. That's my guy. He tells me it's a
great program. He gets to play his game down there and he loves the coaches
coach there."
Along with recent offers from Arizona and North Carolina, Simmons says he's been
in contact with Kentucky, Missouri, Georgia, Kansas,
Ohio State,
Louisville and Syracuse. He's taken visits to Kentucky, Missouri, Georgia and
most recently Ohio State. He plans to visit North Carolina, Arizona and Georgia
before the basketball season ends.
The trip up to Columbus made a strong impression on Simmons and his family.
"Ohio State texts me like every day. I love Ohio State's program. When I took my
visit up there, I really loved it. I feel like the coaches were real with me.
Every one of them texts me and checks on me. I like the little town they live in
and just the whole campus. I really liked it."
Georgia head coach Mark Fox and first-year assistant Yasir Rosemond stay in
contact with Simmons and make sure he knows they want him to stay home to play
college basketball.
"I like the Georgia coaches. I like how they play. Coach Fox has been texting me
a lot recently, but mainly I talk to coach 'Ya' like every day or every other
day. They just talk about recruiting and everything, see how I'm doing, how
school is going, and just checking up on me."
Kentucky continues to recruit Simmons, but the Wildcats have yet to pull the
trigger on an offer.
"I'm not sweating it. If it comes, it comes. I know it's going to come. Me and
coach Cal have been talking and Kenny Payne too. I think it's going to come
during my senior year because that's when they turn it up on people."
Simmons doesn't plan on making a decision any time soon and claims all schools
are even right now.
