Shumate Has 7 On List

John Shumate, a cerebral 6-4, 185-pound point guard from Brophy College Prep in Tempe, Arizona, impressed Rivals Hoops at the ABCD camp with his court savvy and floor vision.
Shumate will need to hit the weights to excel at the next level, but his passing instincts, size, and intelligence bring a unique look to his position. Shumate proved an able distributor with his court awareness and a capable ball handler.

Shumate has heard from Stanford, Rutgers, Arizona State, Tulane, and basically all of the Ivy League, but in particular Princeton, Yale, and Penn. "Some of the schools have offered," according to Shumate, but he didn't want to disclose who. Shumate has already taken an official visit to Stanford.
"I'm interested in all of the schools on my list," said Shumate. "I've only taken one visit so far, and that was to Stanford. When school starts, I'll take more visits."
Shumate, who plays with the Arizona Stars AAU program, will attend the Nike Peach Jam, as well as the Las Vegas Big Time Tournament. He may also participate in the Best of Summer tourney in California, but is undecided.
Shumate, who averaged 16 points and 7 assists this past season at Brophy Prep, carries a 3.9 scholastic GPA. He has scored 1240 on the SAT.
