Shooting guard keeps rising

One of the bigger stories this winter from the class of 2016 has been the emergence of shooting guard Markelle Fultz. Unknown a year ago, he's on the rise and showing no signs of slowing down.
Currently, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard at Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha is an unranked three-star prospect. However, that will change when the rankings for his class get updated in March when he rises to at least four-star status and claims a spot somewhere in the national top 50.
Fultz has good size, he is skilled with the dribble, he can shoot and he is a plus athlete who has become a prospect heavily targeted by high-major programs. He hasn't let any of it go to his head after being initially overwhelmed.
"I'm not surprised anymore," said Fultz of the attention. "I'm just blessed. I worked real hard for it and I'm trying to take it all in as much as I can do that."
A dangerous mid-range scorer whose range extends to the three-point line, Fultz was a junior varsity player this time a year ago. His improvement has been rapid and even from the first time we saw him in early December to seeing him most recently in mid-January, his game has grown leaps and bounds.
Among the programs who have offered are Maryland, Georgetown, Xavier, Wake Forest, Miami, Texas, Memphis, DePaul, Rhode Island and Towson. More recently, programs like Kentucky, Connecticut, Louisville and Duke have made inquiries.
Because of the rush of attention, Fultz has changed up how he's looking at things. After initially thinking he would knock out visits during the winter and make a quick decision before hitting the spring and summer circuit with the D.C. Blue Devils, Fultz will now take more time.
"I don't think so," said Fultz when asked if an early decision was still in the cards. "Basketball season has been so busy and I'd like to visit everybody. I'm trying to wait it out. As soon as I get an opportunity, I will (take some visits)."
