Shooter waiting to sign in spring

As college teams play the season out this year, the coaches will evaluate their team and put together a list of things that they will need to improve upon for next year. Finding a shooter is usually at the top of the must-do list. That should bode well for Troy Daniels.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound shooting guard from Roanoke (Va.) William Fleming will be one of the better unsigned seniors on the recruiting board this high school season because of his big shot ability from the perimeter.

Daniels, a three-star prospect, proved himself over the summer that he's one of the best dead-eye threats from deep. Daniels said he knows he had an advantage that should help him as he tries to find a home in college.
"I think it is really going to help me because as I've seen in college basketball last year, some teams struggle shooting the ball. I've been hearing that teams need shooters. In the long run, that's what they need. They will recruit the 6-8 guys. But when those guys get [to college], they can't shoot the ball. So [schools will] need someone that can score the ball," Daniels said.
"That's the whole object of the game, getting the ball through the hole. Shooting plays a big part in my game. And I think it will play a big part in the recruiting process for me this year because that is what a lot of schools are looking for."
The schools are certainly looking. Daniels said N.C. State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Marshall and Cincinnati have been by his school to see him play this fall. Marquette has also reached out.
Daniels has visited Virginia Tech unofficially this fall. He will officially visit Marshall this weekend. Daniels said he will also schedule a trip to Cincinnati.
Has there been one school that has stood out more than others?
"Virginia Tech is. They've been there since the beginning. They haven't left and they haven't told me anything wrong yet," Daniels said.
With a handful of schools watching, Daniels said he wants to see what other programs will be coming by to get a look at him this season.
"I'll probably wait until April to sign, just to keep my options open," Daniels said. "If I do good, then I'll have more schools that will be interested. I'm going to keep my options open this year."
