Alpharetta (Ga.) Chattahoochee wing Marcus Sheffield started to see his
recruitment take off last year while playing with Game Elite during the summer.
He's continued to build off that momentum and is quietly putting up huge numbers
during his junior season.
Several schools in the southeast have made him a priority in the 2015 class, and
new schools continue to jump into his recruitment.
"I've been talking to most of the same schools that I've been talking to for a
while now like Clemson,
Florida State, Georgia, Maryland,
Kansas State, Xavier and VCU," Sheffield told Rivals.com. "I just recently started
talking to Texas A&M and USC just called. Georgetown still calls a little
bit."
Once his junior season of high school basketball ends, Sheffield hopes to make a
trip to Big 12 country.
"I'm going to try to take some visits after the season ends. I don't have any
planned right now, but I'll probably go to Kansas State on an official visit. I
think more about all that after the season though," Sheffield said.
Bruce Weber and his staff were one of the first to offer Sheffield last
summer and have been in constant contact ever since.
"Kansas State was one of the first schools to offer last summer," Sheffield
said. "They came down recently to see me. I like them a lot. I haven't seen
their campus yet though."
Clemson, like Kansas State, offered Sheffield early in the process. The Tigers
have Sheffield's former high school teammate Jaron Blossomgame on their
roster, which could work in their favor.
"I like Clemson a lot," Sheffield admitted. "They are playing really well. I
like their coaches a lot. I talk to Jaron every now and then. He's pretty cool."
The home state Georgia Bulldogs are one of the schools Sheffied has become very
familiar with in the past year.
"I really like their coaches and their campus a lot," Sheffield said. "They are
close to home too, so I like that. I talk to Coach Palmore the most, but I talk
to Coach Fox and the other coaches too. They have been playing well."
Florida State assistant coach
Charlton Young is very well-connected in
the Peach State and has put the Seminoles firmly in the mix for the four-star
prospect.
"They have been struggling in the last couple games, but I think they are going
to be good. I like them a lot and I like their coaches too. I like Coach CY a
lot. He's really funny," Sheffield said.
Don't expect a decision from Sheffield to come any time soon. He's going to do
his due diligence and take a closer look at each school before finalizing where
he'll play college basketball.
"It's still up in the air, but it won't be any time soon. It will probably be
closer next to school year."
