Shaw on the Rise

One of the better 2006 prospects Matt Shaw out of Verbum Dei High School in Los Angeles has the attention of the Pac-10. The No. 30 player in the Rivals50 will soon have the attention of schools across the country.
“Most of the Pac-10 are recruiting Matt,” said Shaw’s California Team Select coach Thaddeus McGrew. “The ones that I know for sure are Washington, Oregon, Oregon State, and Arizona State.”

In a prior interview with Recruiting Analyst Justin Young of RivalsHoops.com, Shaw mentioned an interest in hometown schools USC and UCLA along with more distant schools Michigan, Florida, Florida State, and Miami. This summer the non-west coast schools will get a good look at the 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward.
Shaw is a prototypical power forward who is aggressive on defense and on the boards. His offensive game at this point is strong within 15 feet of the basket.
“He runs the floor very well,” said Coach McGrew. “He has good post moves with a good touch. He is an Accurate shooter from 15 and in. He is a hard working, good man to man defender and post helper, anticipates well and gets his hands on a lot of balls and rebounds well.”
