Shannon working to make the grade

Three-star 2006 prospect Bobby Shannon certainly has the talent to play high-major basketball. Now that the 6-foot-5, 190-pound small forward has led Potomac (Md.) High School to the state semifinals, Shannon is working hard to qualify academically.
"I'm hearing from Villanova, Memphis, UTEP, Georgetown and Maryland," said Shannon. "I'd like to visit two or three schools this spring. I want to visit Memphis, UTEP and Georgetown. Villanova just started calling me a lot. You could say those four schools are my top schools."

With UTEP being the only school to offer Shannon so far, the others are closely tracking his academic progress.
"I'm really close to qualifying," he said. "I need a 1,000 on the SAT, and I'm taking a night class to help boost my core GPA."
If Shannon is unable to qualify, he will attend prep school for a year. A leading possibility is The Patterson School in North Carolina.
An extremely athletic wing player, Shannon had to play every position on the court for his high school team this year. On the season he averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
