Seven-foot center commits to Kentucky

Not quite the name that Kentucky fans were expecting for the Wildcats' first 2007 commitment, but Mike Williams, a 7-foot, 270-pound center from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va., has given a verbal pledge to Coach Tubby Smith.
"Tubby came in here during the spring and liked what he saw in Mike," said Bishop Ireton head coach Mark Vincent. "He kept in contact with Mike, and Mike fell in love with Kentucky when he visited earlier this month.

"Mike told me Tuesday that he really wanted to commit to Kentucky, so I called Tubby. Tubby said he could be here the next day."
Only having played basketball for three years, Williams, a native of England, has dropped 60 pounds since he began playing.
"Mike moves well and has great hands," said Vincent. "He is still in the early stages of his development, and he is an extremely hard worker."
Williams, who played with the Triple Threat travel team in the spring before being sidelined by knee surgery, averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds per game as a junior.
Williams was also being recruited by North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, DePaul and Temple according to Coach Vincent.
