2007 prospect Varez Ward is one of the main cogs in the balanced attack of a very good Jefferson Davis High School team from Montgomery, Ala. One SEC school has checked in on Ward, 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, and others are showing interest.
"Alabama has been to a game this year," said Ward. "I'm also hearing from Mississippi State, Auburn, Arkansas-Little Rock and Alabama State. I'd also like to hear from some other schools like Indiana, Florida, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Louisville."
Ward, who is averaging 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game, is a smooth shooter with a knack at finding the open man in the lane. Long and well built, he does need to improve his ball handling and foot speed as a high-major prospect.
"I'd like to play in an up tempo style," he said. "But I'd be willing to play anywhere as long as I have an opportunity to play as a freshman if I work hard."
