Mike Sullivan: Sean, how is your season going and how is your team doing?
Sean May: Right now I am averaging about 22 points a game and 14 rebounds. Our team is 14-0. So I am pretty happy on the way things are going for myself and my team.
Mike Sullivan: What have you done this season that you wanted to achieve when you first started your year as a senior?
Sean May: I wanted to lose some weight and be in better shape. I have lost about 20 pounds and am down to about 240-245 pounds. I am in better condition and in better shape.
Mike Sullivan: How have you been able to achieve that goal?
Sean May: I usually lose some pounds during the year but I am in better shape this season because I am working with a personal trainer, Doug Harney. He has been great for me. I really feel I will be ready for next year at North Carolina.
Mike Sullivan: Speaking of North Carolina, have you spoken to the coaches at UNC recently and what do they say?
Sean May: I spoke to Coach Q (Fred Quartlebaum, assistant coach) today. I have not spoken to Coach Doherty (Matt, head coach) in a couple of weeks. I usually speak to Coach Doherty. They talk to me about my season and I talk to them about their season. They said it's been a little rough but as long as they get a full effort out of the players they are fine about it.
Mike Sullivan: How have the fans of Indiana treated you this season?
Sean May: Well, it's been interesting. Every game I play there are signs by Indiana fans. Some of them put Hampton on it with the score North Carolina lost to by. Some put other schools that North Carolina lost to. They put Carolina's record on the signs too.
Mike Sullivan: What are your thoughts about coming in with a terrific UNC recruiting class?
Sean May: Raymond Felton and Rashad McCants are both great players. I am very excited about the chance to play with those great players plus the players that will be returning. I am excited about playing for North Carolina next year. I think they are going to get one more player. They already got another big guy. I don't know too much about him (Damion Grant, Brewster Academy).
Mike Sullivan: How do you plan on keeping off that weight once your season is over?
Sean May: I am going to continue to work with my personal trainer once the season is over and then I will head to North Carolina in the summer. I won't hang around here. I can start going to summer school and get a head start.
Mike Sullivan: You had some problems with sickness (bronchitis) during the summer. How has it been this season?
Sean May: I came down with it twice this season.
Mike Sullivan: Have the doctors told you what causes it and how you can avoid that?
Sean May: Yes. The doctors said that the reason why I get it is because once a game is over, I shower, and then head out to my car without a hat on. They told me even if my car is a short distance to where I am leaving the school, I have to put a hat and heavy coat on to keep myself warm. I haven't done that before. Now I am doing that.
Mike Sullivan: What would satisfy you while playing at North Carolina?
Sean May: Winning a national championship. That's all I want to do. I want to win the big game.
