Lorenzo Keeler, a 6-foot-2, 150-pound shooting guard from Escondido High School in Escondido, California has been very busy during the April long contact period.
Keeler has met with a handful of coaches and one last school is expected to visit on April 30, the last day of the contact period.

“Coach Steve Fisher from San Diego State University has been in contact with Lorenzo and they are very high on him,” Escondido High School head coach Paul Baldwin said. “The University of San Diego has been here for a visit and Wichita State has been here.
“Colorado State is scheduled to visit on April 30,” he added. “Those are just the schools that have been in for a visit. All of these schools are very high on Lorenzo and have a lot of interest in him.”
People grow up in life having a passion or love for something, and the same can be said for Keeler. His two older twin brothers are both 6-foot-5, and have that same passion, and love for the game.
While the road traveled is not always easy, it was definitely well worth it.
“Lorenzo started out with me his freshman year,” Baldwin said. “I think he made the first week of practice, but then he moved and started playing for a rival school. He eventually moved back and has been with me since his sophomore year.”
It didn’t take long for Keeler to get accustomed to his old surroundings. He has the ability to dominate a game in a variety of ways.
“He’s an incredibly gifted player on the offensive end of the court,” he said. “He scored 46 points one game this year and broke a school record. Lorenzo can score off screens, he can beat his man off the dribble and he can hit the deep three.
“He’s got quick feet, long arms and it looks like he’ll grow to be about 6-foot-4, as his plates are still open,” he added. “He is a pretty good passer, but that’s one area that needs improvement and that’s been my fault. I really want the ball in his hands and I want him scorning.”
As far as his future goes, Baldwin sees him playing a variety of positions at the collegiate level. A lot of that will depend on his ability to improve on the defensive end of the ball.
“I see Lorenzo playing the combo guard position,” he said. “I really think he’s got the ability to play the point guard or shooting guard position for a big program. His effort on the defensive end must improve and his passing ability must improve.”
Keeler hasn’t decided when he’ll start taking his official visits and he doesn’t know how many he’ll actually use, but a decision about his future should be made before the start of basketball next year.
“I think Lorenzo will use most of his official visits,” he said. “It all depends on what other schools get involved, but he’ll use three or four of them. A decision about his college destination should be made before the start of his senior year of basketball.”
There was a point in time when schools like Maryland and Texas Tech were showing some interest in Keeler, but those schools have since backed off.
There was a rumor going around earlier in the year stating that Keeler had given a commitment to the University of San Diego, but that just isn’t the case.
