Scouting Report: Engin Astur

RivalsHoops.com has not seen Engin Astur in person. However, coaches who were involved in the recruiting process or had seen Astur play in July overseas in Germany gave us their thoughts. Here is a collective scouting report:
Engin Atsur, a 6-4 combo guard from the country of Turkey, committed to North Carolina State today. He is considered a very good shooter and a solid passing guard. He is not quick with his feet but smart enough to compensate for that with his skills and smarts.

Engin's last visit was to Texas and Rick Barnes' basketball program. Atsur, 18 years old, will be a senior in high school this season and eligible for the 2003-2004 season. Our sources tell us that North Carolina State saw Astur play two to three games in July at a tournament in Germany.
Our scouts tell us that Astur shot the ball extremely well. He had 29 and 24 points in two important tournament games and against stiff competition -- some of the same players who beat up on the US recently in the latest international event in Indianapolis.
Atsur, who possesses good perimeter skills and can handle either backcourt position with effectiveness, had already taken trips to Siena, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, and Clemson. Many who have seen Atsur play in person (RivalsHoops.com has not) tell us that Atsur can shoot the long range ball and also distribute when given the opportunity to handle the basketball. Many basketball onlookers told us they feel Atsur will fit nicely into Herb Sendek's program and should be an impact player down the road.
