Scoring Guard Taking Big East Trip

While the ACC tries to bury the Big East with expansion, schools like Connecticut continue to pound away along the recruiting trail. Coach Jim Calhoun and his staff will have Russell Robinson, the high scoring 6-2,187 pound shooting/combo guard from Rice H.S. in New York, N.Y., in for a visit tomorrow to the University of Connecticut.
Robinson is an outstanding player who can play several positions. He can help out in a pinch at the point guard slot. Russell is probably most suited to the shooting guard position but can also play some small forward despite his size.

Robinson has had a successful spring in AAU competition. Robinson is also considering Illinois, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, St. John's, Syracuse, Villanova, Louisville, Kentucky and Mississippi State.
Robinson has a quick first step that helps him scoot past defenders. He's athletic and elevates/finishes capably in the lane. He earns lots of trips to the foul line, can create his own shot and is an adequate three point shooter. This past season at Rice, Robinson averaged 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals per game.
The Gauchos plan on attending both the AAU Super Showcase and AAU Nationals in July as well.
